All For One The days of the Defense Departments regional combatant commands acting independently are long gonenobody disputes that. But when it comes to how the commands can and should work together there is less agreement.

IPv6 Over the last decade, many governments and organizations disregarded warnings that the Internets 4.3 billion IP addresses were running out. Tunneling, network address translation and classless routing staved off the effects of address depletion, but security grew ever shakier.

See the Forest and the Trees No one in the government knows more about or has more experience using earned value management than the Defense Department. DOD first began using EVM, a disciplined project management methodology, in the 1960s to help identify risks and variances in the schedules and budgets of major projects.

Being Civil: NORTHCOM Learns the Ropes of Sharing with Non-Defense Agencies Like the other regional combatant commands, the Northern Command faces command, control and communications interoperability issues with mission partners.

Some of This and a Little of That At SI International Inc. of Reston, Va., which has been helping DOD manage its IP Version 6 transition since 2003, IT engineering director Alan Sekelsky sees a lot of small things coming together: technology insertion, networking, applications, security and testing.
