DLA and TRANSCOM Unite Supply Chain Efforts

The Transportation Command and the Defense Logistics Agency have created a new program office that unites TRANSCOM’s Global Transportation Network (GTN) program and DLA’s Integrated Data Environment (IDE) initiative.

By combining the programs, DLA and TRANSCOM can develop applications that will give the Defense Department’s combatant commands a cohesive view of supply chain, distribution and logistics information, according to DLA spokeswoman Marcia Klein.

The new program manager, Army Lt. Col. Pat Flanders, has begun an analysis of how to wed GTN and IDE and his team next will develop a strategy for providing this end-to-end capability, Klein says.

TRANSCOM handles 1,900 air missions and 10,000 group shipments a week. As of March, DLA had provided more than 2.8 billion gallons of fuel and 177 million field meals to troops in Iraq.
