Someday imagine authenticating into a building, authenticating into a system and having access to all the assets you need to do your job.
Sounds like HSPD-12 heaven, doesnt it? But what Michele R. Weslander, deputy CIO of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, is talking about goes far beyond that. Because even now, when military, civilian agency and intelligence community officers team up on projects, desks awash with multiple computers remain the norm.
So DNI wants to create a way for folks on joint intelligence assignments to use their natural agency log-ons to automatically toggle to a DNI log-on to then gain access to whatever systems and applications for which they have appropriate clearance, says Weslander, who spoke at the recent Biometric Consortium Conference in Baltimore.
Once DNI crosses this systems access hurdle, which biometrics and common credentials as mandated under Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 are helping resolve, the next issue is fusing the appropriate data from participants in joint operations into one awareness or situational picture, she says.
