DKO project office plans work on portal migration By Dawn S. Onley Editor Representatives from the military services, combatant commands and Defense Department agencies have formed a joint group leading efforts to converge disparate Defense and government Web portals to Defense Knowledge Online.
DKO will use the Army Knowledge
Online unclassified portal as its foundation.
AKO is the largest and most
mature of all DOD portals, with nearly
2 million users.
The DKO Project Office recently
approved several objectives, including
a plan to initially migrate 150,000 joint
users and content and support the expansion
of AKO to DKO through pilot
projects with the Joint Forces Command
and Defense Information
Systems Agency.
As initial services, DKO will offer:
Universal directory services, such as white pages with contact information for all account holders.
Limited single sign-on.
Group-based access control and contacting.
Common access card/public-keyInfrastructure.
DKO has been described as the
gateway for the military services to the
Global Information Grid. It will also
provide access to Net-Centric Enterprise
Services capabilities.
